SHARING TRAVEL TALES

Thanks to Sarah & Cristian's tour leading experiences you are sure to find rest and relaxation at the Tree House. Information, ideas and suggestions to get the most out of your trip are available there, as well as it being simply a great place to meet like-minded travellers and hang out with a beer!

The Tree House knows you want a comfortable social area to chill out in; you want travel information and the space to pore over a map. You want a place to cook when you are tired of eating out and a comfortable space to sleep in with security for your stuff. You want a hot shower and good coffee.

All of these ideas were in mind when the Tree House was created. But of course if you have any suggestions or ideas as to how we can improve then please e-mail us. Hundreds of travellers' minds together can only be better than just ours!

During your stay do please help us in the following ways:

  • Leave glass bottles next to the bins for recycling
  • Be efficient in your water consumption
  • Turn all lights off when not needed
  • Take your backpacks, or a reusable cloth bag, to the supermarket and refuse plastic bags if they are offered
  • Refill your water bottles with tap water to cut down on waste
  • Put food waste in the correct bins
  • Support local businesses and ask us about visits to the Mapuche communities
  • Make an on-going difference by joining the UK based Tourism Concern

Sarah first visited Chile in 1997 as a languages student on her year out from Liverpool University. Already fascinated with the continent she took a tour leading job for Journey Latin America after finishing her degree allowing her to travel the continent from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego.

After mixing travelling, tour leading and teaching English for a good few years Sarah spotted a property for sale in Pucón and, together with Cristian, the idea for the Tree House started taking shape.

To follow the trend of never sitting still, Sarah is currently studying an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management and is on the Sustainable Tourism Committee for the town doing her bit to make sure Pucón stays a great place to visit.

Cristian is a qualified Mountain Guide with several years' experience leading day treks and expeditions on mountains throughout the continent trekking, ski mountaineering and climbing. He has also worked as a senior tour guide for Journey Latin America since 2006. His enthusiasm for travel and tourism comes across in his hands on approach to dealing with guests at the hostel and helping out with itineraries and travel plans wherever possible.

After several seasons' guiding on Villarrica volcano and becoming familiar with the tourism scene in and around Pucon he set up The Tree House Hostel with Sarah in 2006. Going from strength to strength the hostel has now established itself as one of Pucon's favourites among travellers from all over the globe.

He has also worked as far afield as Australia, Italy and Scotland where he put his degree in Aquaculture from Temuco University.

So, if Cristian is not here in the hostel when you arrive, he will be either be off on tour or up a mountain somewhere. Or you may be lucky enough to find him in a rare moment of inertia taking some time out in one of our hammocks!
